Doctors, Dentists, and Goat Milk Oh MY!

Ξ February 13th, 2009 | → | ∇ Uncategorized |

Matthea has put us through the wringer the last couple of weeks with her health and dental issues.   Finally we made it through 5 different doctor appointments and today we have another dental appointment.

The majority of these appointments ended in the doctor saying that they didn’t know what to do, but that she should see a different doctor to find out.  Well. Hrmm.   We finally went to a naturopath who was able to help out a lot. He gave her some treatment and we talked with him about changing her daily nutritional input.  We also talked to our family members who went through milk allergies with both myself and Mike as infants. Everyone gave us really valuable information! Sometimes family really does have better info than the doctors ( in my opinion.)

The main things we heard were:  FEED THIS CHILD SOLID FOODS! Only good solid foods. High in vitamins. Make your own. Get the freshest veggies and fruits possible.  Get a good children’s multivitamin.

We also changed her from formula to Goats Milk.  Now before anyone says anything about all the stuff out there about goats milk being bad for baby… It’s really hard when your baby isn’t getting anything healthy from her hypoallergenic formula and is getting sick all of the time and her teeth are chipping off and crumbling.    We are putting vitamins, essential fatty acids and probiotics into her goat milk. She is getting a LOT more nutrition from this than from a formula made from Corn Syrup Solids that has aspartame and all of those chemical preservatives.

Within two days we have seen changes in Matthea.  Her cradle cap and skin hives have gotten SIGNIFICANTLY better.  Her mood has improved, especially while eating ( she used to fuss and hit anything and everything in sight while she ate) now she is calm and content.  That other formula tasted TERRIBLE!   Thankfully her other tooth seems to be staying put in her mouth. She just seems overall in better spirits. I think we are on the right path.  Last night she actually slept through the night. Completely, and although I don’t always think that little ones need to sleep through the night I could tell it was because she actually felt full and fulfilled.

Today we have our pediatric specialist dental appointment to see what to do about the tooth that already came out * not that we can really do much for that one at this point* and how to get the best for her  forming teeth.   Should be fun.

I was raised on Goats milk the first few years of my life because I was severily allergic to milk. It’s fine aslong as you do it right and in moderation!

Josh was raised on goat milk. You do what you must do. If her teeth are chipping then her bones are not developing well either. Goat milk has a higher calcium content that cow milk, which will help a lot. Vitamin D is necessary for the absorption of calcium though. You might want to talk to a pediatric dietitian.
